Onoe Kikunobu Dance Company: Communicating Culture and Traditions through Nihon Buyo

The Onoe Kikunobu Dance Company, Inc.`s 14th Dance Concert , is dedicated to the memory of the late Bando Mikayoshi, one of the early major contributors and perpetuators of Nihon Buyo and Nagauta in Hawaii.
The concert is an authentic artistic presentation of Nihon Buyo performances parallel to those experienced in Japan. Participating artists include Hawaii artists: Onoe Kikunobu and the members of the Onoe Kikunobu Dance Co. Inc.; mainland artist: David Furumoto, professor of Asian Theater at the University of Wisconsin; and Japanese artists: Onoe Kikunojo II - Headmaster of Onoe Ryu based in Tokyo, Onoe Kikushiro - Master dancer and choreographer and direct assistant to Onoe Kikunojo II, headmaster of the Onoe School of Dance, Onoe Kikukata - master make-up artist and stage assistant specialist (Koken), Takamori Takao - costume consultant and speicalist for Kobayashi Costume Company in Kyoto, Okabe Toshiyuki - wig designer for the Osawa Wig Company in Tokyo.
Music will be provided by guest musicians; Darin Miyashiro, Yuma Totani, Ayako Masuda, and Yumiko Kubo. The concert will feature choreography by the late Onoe Kikunojo I, the late Fujima Kanjuro VI, Onoe Kikunojo II, Onoe Kikushiro and Onoe Kikunori.
