Hawai`i Institute for Contemporary Music

A week of exciting and innovative music making for young emerging composers and pianists 15 to 24 years old, this institute provides an intensive, in-depth opportunity to expand knowledge of issues surrounding contemporary music through lectures, symposia, and concerts presented by University of Hawai`i Music Department faculty. A piano competition provides a platform for talented high school and college-aged pianists to broaden their experience, gain exposure, and compete for cash prizes. It also enriches the institute for non-competing participants who may later return as competitors.

Students also have the opportunity to take piano lessons from institute faculty members at a fee of $60 per lesson. Private lessons are not included in the cost of the tuition. Competitor s please include audiocassette or CD of your work, as requested with application. All competitors and participants receive schedules and other pertinent information at time of check-in.
