Praxis I PPST ® Online Preparation Program: Comprehensive

Required by many colleges of education for entrance into their programs and by states as part of their teaching licensing certification process, the Praxis I PPST¨ (Praxis Pre-Professional Skills Test) measures basic academic skills in math, reading, and writing. Focus on all three skill areas in a self-directed web-based program developed and supported by the UHM College of Education.

This self-directed web-based program begins with an online simulated test, followed by customized instruction to prepare for the actual PPST exam. Course involves simulated tests and working through a customized study program designed for the areas of improvement indicated by scores on the initial exam. Participants are expected to commit to working through assignments with deliberate preparation and discipline. Weekly study sessions of at least 30 minutes, and up to an hour or more, help prepare for the extended time required in an actual testing situation.

Once registered, students may access the program through computer centers at UH Manoa, Maui CC, Kaua`i CC, and West Hawai`i University Center, Kona. Students can also access the program from home, providing that their computer systems meet the following requirements:

  1. Computer processor (Mac or PC) speed of 366mhz or higher
  2. Operating systems: Mac OS 9.2,10.1.4,10.2 or Windows 98, 2nd edition, Windows ME, Windows 2000 Professional 2/SP3, or Windows XP
  3. Broadband internet access: cable modem or DSL ("dial-up" access does not work)
  4. Web browser: Explorer or Netscape
  5. Sufficient memory to download and install plug-ins. Everything you need is downloadable from the web-based program.

The UHM College of Education coordinates this program to support anyone who needs assistance in preparing for the Praxis I for admission to colleges of education. The interactive software was developed by PLATO Learning Corporation and refined to meet local needs.
