Professional Certification
The Human Resource Management Certification Review program is meant for HR professionals preparing to take either of two Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) examinations. The Professional in Human Resources (PHR) examination focuses more on the technical/ operational aspects of HR, and the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) examination focuses on the strategic/policy issues of HR. It is strongly recommended that individuals have at least two to four years of HR-exempt-level experience for the PHR exam and six to eight years of HR-exempt-level experience for the SPHR exam. All candidates must have two years of exempt-level experience in Human Resources in addition to passing the examination.

The computer-based exams are administered by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) twice annually, in May-June and December-January. Pre-certification course content reflects the general body of knowledge tested by HRCI; this course in no way guarantees or assures success on the HRCI exam. Students must use the most recent edition of the SHRM� Learning System (included in the course fee) and are strongly urged not to purchase used materials.

Continuing Education Certification
Participants earn a certificate of completion from the University of Hawai`i Outreach College and also from the Society for Human Resource Management for satisfactory completion of the two-part program. Examination fees for the PHR and SPHR certification are not included in course fees.
