Second in a series of three classes, focusing on the planning process. Topics: purpose of the planning process, the project plan, work breakdown structure, estimating and budgeting, scheduling, staffing plan, and risk management plan. Students continue on project teams to plan their selected project in class. Must be taken with Introduction and Initiating Projects and Executing, Controlling, and Closing Projects.

Project Professionals, LLC, (PPLLC) is a locally-based provider of project management services and specializes in project management training and consulting services, including mentoring and coaching project managers and project teams. All members of the company are experienced project managers and trainers, hold MBA degrees, and are Project Management Professionals (PMP) certified by the Project Management Institute (PMI®), an internationally recognized project management organization. PPLLC is also certified by PMI as a Registered Educational Provider (REP). The team of Project Professionals LLC facilitator/ consultants includes:

Ku'uipo Laumatia, PMP, MBA (emphasis in Human Resources Management), Hawaii Pacific University, is currently director of project and business management in an information technology and services department of a large financial institution. She supervises program and project managers responsible for information systems, e-business, telecommunications, and business management projects. Her primary project experience has been in education, training, information systems and telecommunications. Ku'uipo has developed project management curriculum for several organizations and academic institutions and also teaches graduate project management courses at Hawaii Pacific University.

Roy Uemura, PMP, PE, MBA, Chaminade University of Honolulu, is a professional engineer, licensed in the State of Hawai'i, who currently works as a project management consultant with a major engineering management company. Prior to this, he was with a large utility company where he was a successful project manager in power plant, alternate energy, electrical transmission and distribution systems, and telecommunications projects. While serving in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Roy managed military construction projects for several years.

Alan Yamashiro, PMP, MBA, University of Hawai‘i, is a trained facilitator and holds a Mortgage Banking Certificate from Mortgage Banker's Association, and a Management Skills and Theory Diploma from American Institute of Banking. Alan heads Project Professionals, LLC, a provider of project management training and consulting services. He has also served as President of the PMI Honolulu Chapter, and has been a project manager for large systems implementation with a local health care organization. Prior to this he managed a project management office for an international financial institution. Alan has excelled as a project manager for large information systems projects in banking, applications, telecommunications, mortgage banking, trust, real estate management and other financial management systems. He has developed and managed a project portfolio prioritization and selection methodology for multi-million dollar budgets.

Carolyn Yoshihara, PMP, MBA, University of Hawai‘i, is a manager in trust operations of a Hawaii financial institution, where she trains and mentors team leads in project management. She was previously a project office manager for a financial institution where she supervised a team of project managers responsible for implementing major, strategic information technology projects. Carolyn was a project management instructor at Japan America Institute for Management Science and has served for several years on the Board of the PMI Honolulu Chapter.

Steve Davidson, EdD, PMP, retired from his position as a manager at HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union in 2011. Currently, he works as a free-lance Consultant, Project Manager, and Trainer. Steve is a Certified Facilitator with FranklinCovey and leads courses in Extraordinary Productivity, Time Management, Personal Effectiveness and Project Management. Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from New York University and a Doctor of Education in Counseling Psychology from Boston University. Prior to his retirement, Steve held the designation of Certified Financial Planner and worked for many years as a Financial Advisor. Steve is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and is a member of the Honolulu Chapter of PMI.
