Digital communication fundamentals (channel coding, source coding, modulation, performance), networks (architectures, routing, multiplexing, performance), wireless networks, optical networks, internet TCP/IP, QoS, sensor networks, cyber security, SCADA ((supervisory control and data acquisition), integrating communications, networking, and security into distribution systems (smart meters, home area networks).

Tony Kuh, PhD, Professor and Chair, Electrical Engineering, University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, is director of the College of Engineering's Renewable Energy and Island Sustainability (REIS) program.

Dora Nakafuji, PhD, Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering, University of California, Davis, has been the Renewable Energy Planning Director for Hawaiian Electric Company since 2009, and adjunct faculty at UH since 2010. Prior to joining the utility, she served for eight years as a staff researcher with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, National Security Engineering Division.

Wayne Lewis, PhD, Mathematics, University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, is a faculty member at Honolulu Community College (HCC). Since 1992, Dr Lewis has served as an HCC math instructor, Pacific Center for Advanced Technology Training (PCATT) faculty member, state School-to-Work coordinator, and Cisco Academy manager and legal main contact for the Cisco Academy Training Center (CATC). Dr Lewis will contribute to the session on grid communications, networking, and security.
