Introductory class on the Design Thinking process for investigating problem, acquiring information, analyzing knowledge and posing solutions. As part of the electric grid transformation toward more renewables, non-traditional tools and processes will be needed to reliably and seamlessly integrate new and legacy technologies. Concepts include how new tools for modeling, analysis and visualization create situational awareness.

Dora Nakafuji, PhD, Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering, University of California, Davis, has been the Renewable Energy Planning Director for Hawaiian Electric Company since 2009, and adjunct faculty at UH since 2010. Prior to joining the utility, she served for eight years as a staff researcher with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, National Security Engineering Division.
