Aquaculture Training On-Line Learning (ATOLL)
Online program, designed to introduce fish farming to those interested in food security and/ or beginning their own fish farm, contains four courses in the fundamental science of farming aquatic animals and plants. This exciting program includes a special module to introduce backyard aquaponics production. Aquaponics is the fastest growing trend in home gardening today. Grow your own organic vegetables, quickly and sustainably with the addition of a fish tank.
Students from high school age and up are welcome to attend. Distinguished UH and visiting faculty provide cutting edge information through a series of engaging videos, digital games, and a dedicated social network for students in the program. Stop paying high prices for fish or vegetables – you can grow your own. Feed your family – or an entire village – by learning the science behind fish farming and aquaponics.
Students who pass all final module exams with a score of 70% or higher will be eligible to receive a certificate of completion.
This program was made available and affordable with the assistance of a generous grant from NOAA. Scholarships are available. For more information, visit the program website at videolearning.uhatoll.com.
The ATOLL online program is now approved by the State of Hawai‘i Employment and Training Fund (ETF) program for individual workers. ETF may pay 50% for students employed by eligible businesses and nonprofits. For information, go to labor.hawaii.gov/wdd/home/employers/etf and click on the Employer Referral ("micro") program link.
