This day is an intensive focus on CSS theory. Topics to be covered are:
• DOCTYPE Switching: Browser technology you need to know • The Cascade, Part I: The relationship of browser, user, and author styles • The Cascade, Part II: Appropriate use of author styles • The Cascade, Part III: Source order and why it matters • Inheritance: Understanding the concept of inheritance and why it`s so important to writing streamlined, effective CSS • Specificity: How conflicts within multiple styles are ultimately resolved • CSS Rule Structure: Understanding how rules are created. • Selectors in Depth: A study of CSS selectors • The Box Model: Learning to manage the box model effectively • CSS Positioning schemes: Static, Fixed, Absolute and Relative positioning • The Float Model: Using floats • Future of CSS
A web designer, author and educator, Molly E. Holzchlag has written more than 30 books related to web design and development. She is a steering committee member of the Web Standards Project and has been named one of the 25 Most Influential Women on the Web. Holzschlag wrote the very popular "Integrated Design" column for Web Techniques Magazine and spent a year as Executive Editor of WebReview.com.
