Learning how to photograph people is one of the greatest challenges in photography. Learn the techniques of effective portraiture, both in and out of the studio. All aspects of the portrait are demonstrated and discussed such as scouting locations, planning, lighting, communication with the subject, and making the shot. Specific topics covered include facial analysis, effective lighting techniques to highlight an individual`s character and strengths, as well as capturing the decisive moment. The instructor managed a successful portrait business in Toronto and has a wealth of experience in making insightful formal portraits as well as environmental photographs of people.
Prerequisite: a basic knowledge of photography.
Please bring your own camera and sufficient film or digital capture cards for a day of photographic exploration.
Michael Gilbert is a third generation photographer holding a Masters and Craftsman degree both in the United States and Canada. He has offices in Wailea, Maui and Paris, France. His clients include Mercedes Benz, Hallmark, Four Seasons, and Disney and his corporate sponsors include Olympus, Epson, Canon Imacon, XRite, Hahnemuhle Mitsubishi and Breathing Color. Gilbert`s photographs are widely collected. His one-person show, "From a Child`s Heart," opened at the International Museum of Photography in 2005. He is a sought after International speaker and has appeared at Imaging USA, WPPI, and Photokina.
