Search Engine Optimization for Web Designers

With: Chad Kassirer
Info: Mar 2 • Sun • 9:00am-1:00pm • 1 mtg • UHM Sakamaki C104, Manoa MultiMedia Lab • $80
Event ID: L09444

The web is full of attractive, fully functional sites, which are virtually invisible to search engines. Often websites are not as effective as they might be because search engine optimization (SEO) was either an afterthought or implemented incorrectly. The best designed website is of little use if present and potential clients cannot find it. This course is an introduction to SEO issues for web designers and anyone interested in increasing website traffic. Topics include an overview of SEO principles and exploration of both effective and ineffective SEO strategies. See how decisions early in the design phase affect SEO, how to avoid the major pitfalls, and how to implement effective SEO strategies for your site(s).

Prerequisite: An understanding of basic HTML is helpful but not required.

Chad Kassirer has been a freelance web contractor living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area more than 10 years. Recently, Kassirer served as an international judge for the 2005 Indonesian Web Awards and was the technical editor for the book, Web Redesign: Workflow that Works - 2nd Edition. As the former director of production for the web development shops, Red Eye Digital Media and Idea Integration/San Francisco, Kassirer has played a key role in the production process for several award-winning websites.
