Creating effective written content for the dynamic environment of the web can be a challenge, even for the most experienced writers. This workshop is designed to help writers develop useable, flexible, and powerful copy for websites and multimedia.

Through real-world examples and hands-on exercises, participants learn how to:

- Optimize writing for concision, consistency, and readability;

- Analyze existing copy and retool it for on-screen display and navigation;

- Incorporate the fundamentals of information design into copywriting;

- Write for multiple audiences with various needs.

The workshop also covers the exciting possibilities of blogs. As a quick, easy, and powerful method of communicating via the web, blogging has given individuals, community organizations, and businesses new ways to express themselves, exchange ideas, and promote their products and services.

John Zuern is an associate professor in the UHM Department of English, where he teaches classes on writing for electronic media and develops web-based teaching resources. He also works as a freelance writer and editor.
