Digital Photography Basics

Explore all aspects of making digital images, from creative camera use through processing images in image-editing software. Gain an understanding of digital photography concepts including composition, depth of field, lens aperture, shutter speed, and camera settings. Review resolution, image size and quality, file formats (jpg, Raw), ISO settings, exposure controls, color correction, white point balance, and use of the various program and manual shooting modes. Learning to see with a camera and using camera controls to express your vision is emphasized.

Explore digital editing basics and an introduction to software for post-processing enhancements.

Please bring your camera (DSLR or point and shoot) and a digital capture card.

David Ulrich is a core faculty member and the program coordinator for Pacific New Media. He is an active photographer and writer whose work has been published in numerous books and journals. Ulrich`s photographs have been exhibited internationally in over 75 exhibitions. He is the author of The Widening Stream: the Seven Stages of Creativity.
