Prepare for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE®). Review test-taking techniques, timesaving methods, and content areas covered in the exam: reading comprehension, sentence relationships, relationships between words and concepts, logical reasoning, quantitative problem solving, quantitative comparison and graphs, and analytical writing.

In general, the more you practice before taking the exam, the better. We suggest starting now. Official GRE® test preparation materials for both the computer-based and paper-based GRE tests can be downloaded free from the Educational Testing Service web site, www.ets.org. The materials include two computer-based GRE General Tests, sample analytical writing topics, scored sample essays and reader commentary, test-taking strategies, a math review, and test tutorials. The GRE: Practicing to Take the General Test (10th Edition), available from ETS and other online booksellers for a fee, is an excellent secondary text containing hundreds of practice questions. GRE practice questions can also be found at www.testprepreview.com.

We recommend taking a timed post-test on your own the week after the course ends. Comparison of your scores identifies the progress you have made and areas for continued practice before the actual GRE.

Vicky Chiu-Irion, MA in economics, BA in math and economics, has taught college-level mathematics courses for over 20 years.

Susan Sanger, MA in English, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, scored high on the GRE and is now a full-time high school English teacher.
