Learn traditional slack key techniques. Designed for beginning and novice players, this course covers a range of slack key styles. Slack key basics such as bass alternation, melodic construction, and improvisation are emphasized.
Lance Takamiya, BS, is an arranger, composer, and performer of slack key. Since 1994, he has taught at UH Mānoa. He studied the slack key tradition with Ozzie Kotani, through the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts` Master Apprentice Program. He offers students the opportunity to expand their repertoire by arranging new pieces for his intermediate and advanced slack key classes.
