A good coach can maximize the performance of everyone associated with an organization - employees, managers, customers, and suppliers. Learn to motivate, guide, and support others in working toward - and achieving - top performance. Discover how to recognize and use daily opportunities to coach people. Gain the skills you need to bring out the best in everyone.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants are able to:

  • Describe the role of a coach.
  • Explain why everyone in the organization needs to be a coach.
  • Describe how coaching can benefit themselves, others, and the larger organization.
  • Identify behaviors that help foster a supportive coaching environment.
  • Demonstrate a variety of asking and listening techniques to coach others formally and informally.
  • Use the Key Actions to conduct a coaching session.

Key Actions

Learn to:
  • Identify an opportunity to help someone expand on his or her skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Confirm that the person is ready for coaching.
  • Ask questions and offer information to clarify the situation.
  • Help the person identify possible actions.
  • Gain agreement on course of action.
  • Offer your support.

Robb Drown is corporate training officer for First Hawaiian Bank, where he has worked since 1993. He is a certified AchieveGlobal and Development Dimensions International facilitator. Drown previously was HR manager at Hawaiian Life and organizational development manager for Pacific Guardian Life, where he was the principal trainer in management development.
