On-Campus Housing

During summer, UHM Student Housing Services office offers limited on-campus housing for students enrolled in credit courses during Summer I (six-week session), Summer II (six-week session), Combined Sessions (12 weeks), and Varied Date courses. Students registered for a minimum of one credit hour throughout any of these terms are eligible for student housing.

Residence Facilities

Facilities range from traditional residence halls to contemporary apartment units with one and two bedrooms. Residence halls offer recreation and study areas. Bathroom facilities are communal. Apartment units are furnished and accommodate two students in the one-bedroom unit and four students in the two-bedroom unit. Front desk service is provided at both types of facilities. The majority of the accommodations are double occupancy; the availability of single rooms is dependent upon the hall being utilized for a specific term.

General Assignment Information

Assignments are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Early applications are strongly recommended. Those wishing to share a room or apartment with a particular person(s) must mutually request each other and apply for the same session and accommodation type. Every effort is extended to accommodate such requests; however, there are no guarantees.

To qualify for housing, each applicant must be registered for at least one credit course throughout the housing contract. (Residents who drop their academic programs no longer qualify for housing, and their housing contract is terminated without refund.)

Residents who plan to arrive after their housing session has begun are advised to send written notification to the Housing Office before the session begins; otherwise, late arrivals will find that their contract has been terminated with penalties due to a "no-show."

Each assigned resident is assessed a $75.00 security deposit. This deposit is refunded six to eight weeks following the end of the contract period, less damage charge(s) are incurred.

Application Information

To request accommodations, submit a completed Housing Application/Contract Form with the $25.00 non-refundable application fee.

Other Housing Arrangements

Housing for Students Registered for Noncredit Courses

Some dorm rooms and a limited number of apartments are available for students registered for noncredit courses. Contact the Conference Officer at (808) 956-7436 at Student Housing Services.

Off-Campus Housing

Visit this site for off-campus housing referral service, www.housing.hawaii.edu/och.

If you choose to live off-campus, make housing arrangements well before your arrival. Rental rates in Honolulu are high and competition for available space is keen. Organizations such as the YMCA (808-946-0253) offer alternative housing options. Students contract for off-campus housing directly with the landlord. There is no place on campus to which luggage or mail may be forwarded ahead of arrival, so plan accordingly.
