UHM Application
Summer Financial Aid Application Forms are available at the Financial Aid Services office and on their Summer Financial Aid Application web page. The deadline for summer applications is April 15, 2008. Applications received after April 15 will not be processed.
To be eligible for summer financial aid, you need to meet all of the following requirements:
- You are only enrolled in UHM courses and you were a UHM financial aid recipient in Spring 2008.
- You demonstrate sufficient financial need according to your 2007-2008 academic year FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
- You have maintained satisfactory academic progress based on UHM Financial Aid Services Academic policies.
- You are enrolled at least half time during the summer (6 credits as an undergraduate sudent; 4 credits as a graduate student). You must be enrolled for all credits for aid to be disbursed. If you are a graduate student enrolled in undergraduate courses you must provide written approval from your academic advisor.
- Your Summer Application form is submitted to the Financial Aid office no later than April 15.
Your summer award will count as either a full or partial semester of financial aid eligibility (depending on your credit load) and is based on your remaining eligibility for the 2007-2008 academic year. See limited types of aid that may be awarded on the Summer Application form information sheet.
UHM Financial Aid Distribution
Your financial aid will be disbursed upon confirmation of your attendance. If you do not complete the courses upon which your summer aid is based, you may be required to repay any aid you receive. Be prepared to pay for expenses prior to disbursement. Below are the estimated disbursement dates through the UH Cashier's Office. Any changes to your registration may affect and delay your financial aid disbursement. Remember that it can take up to 14 business days for you to receive your refund check. Update your mailing address on MyUH.
Estimated Summer Session disbursement dates:
- Summer Session 1 (6 credit enrollment) = May 27
- Summer Session 2 (6 credit enrollment) = July 7
- Summer Session 1 and 2 (3/3 credit enrollment) = July 7
UH Manoa financial aid disbursement for Summer 2008 Extension term courses is processed manually, and disbursement delays should be anticipated.

Tax Credits for Outreach College Students
Federal laws effective since 1997 make it possible for eligible taxpayers to claim a tax credit of up to $1,000 for credit courses. These tax credits apply to qualified college tuition and related expenses. Students who enroll during the 2007 calendar year are mailed a Form 1098-T from the University in January 2008. To insure that your tax form is mailed to the correct location update your permanent address by entering the MyUH Portal. Select "View/Update Address." Download, complete, and submit the form, "Change of Student Data." Information about Hope Scholarship and Lifetime Learning tax credits as well as other related tax credits can be obtained on the web at https://its06.its.hawaii.edu:9564 or by contacting your tax advisor.
Tuition Assistance
Some financial assistance is available to qualified Outreach College students, including the following:
Military Nonresident Tuition Exemption
For tuition purposes only, active duty military personnel stationed in Hawai‘i and their authorized family members, and members of the Hawaii National Guard or Hawaii-based Reserves are exempt from nonresident tuition rates. To qualify for resident tuition rates, complete the Verification of U.S. Armed Forces Assignment Form (available at the Hawai‘i Base Education Office or Outreach College Student Services) and submit annually. In addition, a copy of the military orders is required if a student is registering for the first time through Outreach College.
Active duty military personnel need to contact their Base Educational Services Officer for the proper "Authorization for Payment" form before registering for courses. At the time of payment, registrants submit the completed, original Tuition Assistance (TA) form; otherwise, full tuition is charged.
Veteran's Administration (VA) Benefits
Individuals seeking VA educational benefits (including certification) consult the VA Regional Office or the Campus VA representative at (808) 956-8010 before registering for courses. Not all courses are recognized for educational benefits by the VA.
