Summer Course Placement
LANGUAGE COURSE LEVEL PLACEMENT
If you need assistance selecting the correct course level for a language course (eg. Chinese, French, Hawaiian etc.), contact the academic department (see Academic Department Contact).
ENGLISH (ENG 100) PLACEMENT
To enroll in a Summer Session section of English (ENG) 100, students must have an ENG 100 placement.
- View your placement score by checking in MyUH after April 1, 2008.
- Log into MyUH
- Click on STAR Degree Check/View Transcript.
- Click on Transcripts tab.
- Look under "General Tests" for a Manoa Writing Placement Exam score of 3 or a Manoa English FW Placement score of 100.
Students who do not have scores for either of these two "tests" and who wish to register for ENG 100 over the summer should contact the Manoa Writing Program at (808) 956-6660 mwp@hawaii.edu.

MATHEMATICS
ASSESSMENT EXAMS FOR MATH 140, 203, 215, AND 241:
Students may register for Math 140, 203, 215, or 241 before taking the assessment exam. Most students who wish to take these courses will have to take the assessment exam. Exceptions are those who:
- took the UHM assessment exam in Fall 2007 or Spring 2008 and obtained a sufficient score, or
- placed into calculus based on their Advanced Placement score, or
- received a qualifying grade in a mathematics course at UHM, or
- received appropriate college transfer credits, or
- completed Math 135 at one of the UH Community Colleges or Math 104F at UH-Hilo or Hawai‘i Community College with a grade of C- or better.
Math 140, 215, and 241: Students must take the assessment exam at one of the following times (RESERVATIONS REQUIRED):

Math 203: Students will take the assessment exam in class on the first day of instruction.
RESERVATION AND ASSESSMENT INFORMATION:
Go to the Mathematics Department website to make a reservation. Click on "ASSESSMENT EXAM SIGN UP". The website also contains information about preparing for the exam. Bring your UH Student ID and a pencil to the exam.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE ENROLLED IN MATH 140, 203, 215, OR 241 AND YOU DO NOT PASS THE ASSESSMENT EXAM:
Students who do not pass the assessment exam must withdraw from their math courses. Obtain a form from the Mathematics Department in Keller 419. Take the completed form to the Outreach College information window in Krauss Hall 101 for processing. Do not drop the course on MyUH. Withdrawing in-person is required to enable students who do not pass the exam to receive a 100% tuition refund.
