Imaginary Witness: Hollywood and the Holocaust
June 19 at 6:30 pm, film begins 7 pm, discussion follows at 8:30pm
Directed by Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner Daniel Anker, with narration by Gene Hackman, Imaginary Witness tells the story of the American film industry`s complex and fascinating response to the the horrors of Nazi Germany. Utilizing extraordinary and rarely-seen film and told through first-hand accounts of directors, actors, writers, and producers and historians (including Steven Spielberg; Sidney Lumet; Rod Steiger; George Stevens, Jr.; Annette Insdorf; Michael Berenbaum and others), the film takes us from the American ambivalence and denial during the heyday of Nazism, through the silence of the post-war years, and into the present day. Panelists include Mimi Henriksen and Herbert Ziegler,, with Dr. Peter Hoffenberg as moderator.
