When you hear terms like Linux, distribution, open source, or gnu, you don`t ordinarily think of mom. After this session with Scott Belford, you do. Installing and operating a free distribution of gnu/Linux such as Ubuntu was easy enough for his mother.
In this presentation, Belford explains in an entertaining manner why things like gnu and Linux exist. Attendees learn to install Ubuntu Linux, even if the hard drive already has Windows or OSX installed. After attendees see the ease of installation and operation, they spend the rest of the session learning how all the applications they used to pay once had paid for are now available for free.
Questions are encouraged. Learning is mandatory. Free Ubuntu Linux CDs, and more, are provided to all attendees.
Scott Belford has been using gnu/Linux since 1994. He is the founder and executive director of the Hawai`i Open Source Education Foundation. Leveraging his MBA and years of supporting deployments of mission-critical Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) systems, Belford specializes in making a compelling case for FOSS to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
Supported in part by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
