Learn the basic dance movements and rhythms of West African dance. Explore traditional dance and songs from Guinea, West Africa:
- Lamba – A praise dance
- Soli – A rite of passage dance
- Mane – A celebration dance
Gain tools to comprehend the relationships between various rhythms and movements. Course includes history of movement, rhythm, composition, basic sequencing, stylization, songs, and cultural significance.
Charyse Harvick is a UH graduate student in dance education. She has taught West African dance at Northern Arizona University and Coconino Community College.
