Steps to Apply and Register

Program application and registration are simple.

  1. Application
    1. Complete the Summer Scholar Application Form (downloadable pdf).
    2. Your parent or legal guardian fills out the Residency Declaration Form.
    3. Request an official copy of your high school transcript and PSAT or SAT scores.
    4. Ask your counselor or teacher to write a letter of recommendation.
    5. Your counselor will compile all of the required materials and mail to:

      Outreach College
      University of Hawai‘i at Manoa
      Summer Scholar Program
      2440 Campus Road, Box 447
      Honolulu, HI 96822

Your application is not considered complete until ALL supporting materials have been received by the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
  1. Your application is processed. With the information you have supplied on your Application and Residency Declaration Form, we create a student record for you. Inclusion in our database allows you to register on MyUH. Normally you will be notified of your acceptance or denial within 5 working days from the date all application materials are received.

  2. Once admitted it is mandatory for you to create a UH username and UH email account. Go to Managing Your UH Username, Get a UH Username. If you need assistance with this process, contact the ITS Help Desk by phone at (808) 956-8883, or email help@hawaii.edu.

  3. Read the Student Tutorials before entering MyUH for the first time.

  4. Select Your Course(s) from the Schedule of Courses (University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Class Availability) for Summer 2008 (5-digit CRNs). Make note of the course reference number (CRN), which is used for registration. Please doublecheck the course location. Outreach College offers courses on the neighbor islands and on the Manoa campus.

  5. Obtain Required Approvals. If instructor or department approvals are required, contact the appropriate person or office prior to attempting to add the course(s). The academic department or instructor will enter the approval code that allows YOU to register for the course. To view phone and email information go to Contact Academic Departments.

  6. Register for Your Courses. Register via MyUH by entering your UH username and password. Under the "Home Tab", select "Add/Drop courses". Select the Summer 2008 term. Add each course by selecting the University of Hawaii at Manoa as the institution. Enter the 5-digit CRN. Submit Changes. Read your course information carefully and look for any error messages.

  7. Select View My Charges/Make Your Payment. Carefully read all of your payment options. Payment is due before your course begins. A billing statement will not be mailed to you. See Payment Deadlines.

Registrations are not complete until payment is received and processed.

For more payment and refund information, see Payment Information and Procedures.

Drop courses officially before the first day of the term to avoid financial penalties. Some varied date courses may have different payment and penalty deadlines.

  8. Registration Changes. You may drop or add courses by web until the last day to withdraw. If you drop a course on or after the first day of the session, be aware of the financial penalties. Each course may have its own add, drop, withdrawal and refund dates. Click here to view the Academic Calendar for each course.

  9. Errors and Course Changes. Check your schedule for errors after you complete your registration and check back for updates before the first day of the term. Some classes may be cancelled, and some rooms, times, or instructors may be changed.

  10. Call or Email Us for Help. If you need assistance with your UH login, password, or connection to the web, contact the ITS Help Desk, Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm (808) 956-8883, 1-800-558-2669, or connect to help@hawaii.edu or www.hawaii.edu/its/students.html.

If you need assistance with course or admissions questions or other registration problems, call Outreach College at (808) 956-6780, or 1-800-862-6628 (toll-free from the Neighbor Islands or continental US) during business hours, 8:00am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday (Hawai'i Standard Time), or email us at sscholar@hawaii.edu.

Cost
Resident tuition for UHM undergraduate courses is $214.00 per credit hour (most courses are 3 credits). Students also pay a 6-week session Term fee. See the UHM summer bulletin or website for complete information on payment of tuition and fees.

Housing
Summer Scholars attend the University as day students, as there is no on campus housing available to participants of this program.

As a Summer Scholar, however, you are invited to take advantage of all the campus services available to registered UHM students.

Meet old friends and make new ones at the Campus Center, where you'll find the University Bookstore, campus barbershop, copy center, Information Office/Ticket Office, games room, lounge, cafeteria (one of many places to eat on campus), and ballroom where many public events are held.
