PROGRAM: MUSIC AND STORYTELLING

Bailey Matsuda is the founder of Hoʻomana Na Mele, a musician’s/composer’s collective that empowers the lives of its members through its musical projects. Matsuda has composed, produced, arranged and performed for films, recordings, concerts and commissions, and has served as a resident artist for the Statewide Cultural Extension Program and the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Matsuda was the founder, leader, keyboardist and composer for Cabaséke, a world-class ensemble that performed in concert in Honolulu and in Japan by invitation with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. He has composed music for numerous films, including the nationally released PBS documentary “Heart Strings” about the Kamaka ukulele family. He studied music composition with Neil McKay, studied piano with Peter Coraggio, and received his Master of Music degree in Composition from UH Mānoa. He currently teaches in the Performing Arts Department of the Kamehameha Schools.
