PROGRAM: SLACK KEY GUITAR/KEAWE STYLE
John shares the history of slack key and shares his many compositions both instrumentally and vocally – all in his own distinct style. His music is infused with the spirit of Aloha and reflects his deep love for the islands and his family recordings to his credit. He was chosen as a Na Hoku Hano Hano Award winner in 1994 for instrumental album of the year, “Hoonanea”. He was also one of five nominees in 1995 and 1996 for his recordings of “Auhele”, “Manaolana,” and “Christmas Is”. John is a multiple Na Hoku Hanohano and Hawai‘i Music awards recipient and a contributing artist on Hawai‘i’s 1st Grammy award in 2005. He released a vocal CD entitled “Heartfelt” in 1999. His newest instrumental CD released in 2002 is entitled “Aloha Kaikuaana”.
