Earn a stand-alone micro-credential or earn a micro-credential as a current student:

 

  • To pursue a micro-credential as a professional or lifelong learner (outside of a degree program), please apply to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Outreach College under the Non-Degree Seeking, Unclassified Programs option. There is no cost to apply and applications are generally processed within 5-10 business days.
  • If you are currently a UH Mānoa student, you can add a micro-credential to your existing studies without any application.

 

Register for your courses:

 

  • Once your application has been processed, or if you are currently enrolled, you can register for your courses via STAR GPS.
  • Be sure to check the micro-credential program page for pre-requisites or specific course sequences.

 

Complete the Statement of Intent form

 

  • Complete the Statement of Intent form and indicate the micro-credential you are interested in.
  • You will receive an email notification confirming receipt of your form

 

Complete your courses and claim your digital badge:

 

  • Complete and pass all of the required courses required for the micro-credential.
  • After successfully finishing your coursework, you will receive information on how to claim your shareable digital badge to showcase your new skills.

 

About This Micro-Credential

This micro-credential provides advanced, practice-oriented training in conflict management, negotiation strategy, and mediation. The micro-credential integrates theory with applied skill development, preparing you to analyze disputes, manage difficult conversations, and facilitate fair agreements in complex organizational and public settings. It’s designed for graduate students across disciplines and working professionals seeking formal training in negotiation and mediation—especially those in government, nonprofit leadership, and private-sector management roles.

 

How to Get Started

Enroll in the two graduate-level courses. Graduate standing is required. You may begin with either PACE 629 or PACE 647, allowing you to structure your learning based on your priorities. Both courses are available in Fall, Spring, and Summer terms.

 

Coursework

2 graduate-level courses (6 credits total):

• PACE 629/PLAN 629 (Negotiation and Conflict Resolution) and

• PACE 647 (Mediation: Theory and Practice).

 

PACE 629 focuses on strategic negotiation planning and research-based preparation. PACE 647 emphasizes practical mediation skills through role plays, discussions, quizzes, written reflections, and term projects. Both courses use simulations and real-world scenarios for assessment.

 

Who This Is For

This program is well-suited for employees in state and county government, nonprofit and community leaders, and private-sector managers who regularly engage in stakeholder negotiation, personnel disputes, policy implementation, or community conflict. It serves graduate students in public administration, law, business, education, and related fields who intend to pursue leadership roles in public, nonprofit, or organizational contexts.

Stackability

Both  courses count toward the Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution, which requires 15 total credits. If you plan to apply these credits toward the certificate, contact the program to learn about requirements.  Completion of the micro-credential does not guarantee acceptance into the certificate program.
