Master of Education in Early Childhood Education

The MEd – Early Childhood Education is a statewide, interdisciplinary graduate program designed to address the statewide need for Birth – 8 years leadership. This interdisciplinary degree is a collaboration between Curriculum Studies, Special Education, and Human Development & Family Studies.

This program provides format delivery and licensure-related track options to support a range of candidate needs. Program candidates can select one option from each category.

Two format options:

  1. Summer Intensive – Cohorted, face-to-face 1 month intensive sessions for 3 summers on Oahu + monthly on-line seminars throughout the year
  2. Evening/Weekend (Online/Hybrid)– Cohorted, on-line / hybrid coursework accessible across all islands + monthly on-line seminars throughout the year

Three track options:

  1. Non-license M.Ed.- Early Childhood Education
  2. Initial license (Generalist PreK-K or PreK-3)
  3. Add-a-Field license (Generalist PreK-K or PreK-3)

The Masters in Early Childhood Education prepares graduates for various teaching and leadership positions in programs that support the development, learning and well-being of children together with their families and communities.

International Student Visa

International students enrolled in fully online or primarily online degree or certificate programs are not eligible for issuance of the Form I-20 required to apply for an F-1 student visa to study in the United States. Students participating in online programs must complete their coursework from outside the United States unless they hold another valid immigration status that permits study in the U.S.

For the purposes of international student visa eligibility, a “primarily online” program refers to a program in which the majority of coursework or instructional delivery is conducted online or through distance education methods, even if the program may include limited in-person, hybrid, residency, or short-term on-campus components.
