Online Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science

 

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Discover your pathway to advancement by earning your Online Bachelor’s Program in Medical Technology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine. This online degree is tailored for Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) who have earned their associate’s degrees and want to expand their career opportunities. The program is designed to accommodate the unique needs of MLTs.

 

As the only Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Scientist program in Hawai‘i, the program focuses on producing technically proficient graduates who are deeply committed to the well-being of the communities they serve.

 

You can take the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) board exam after completing all general requirements in four semesters. Successfully passing this exam marks a significant milestone, transitioning you from an MLT to a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS). This distinction opens doors to many career opportunities and higher earning potential.

Qualifications and admissions

  • Successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program at a nationally accredited program
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • National MLT certification
  • Currently employed as an MLT (part-time or full-time)

Is the online program synchronous or asynchronous? Is there an in-person component for the program?

The Online Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program is asynchronous. You will never be required to come to campus to attend in-person classes or meetings on any specific days or times. Everything you need to complete the program can be accessed online. This makes it an excellent option for those needing convenience and flexibility.

Can I take some courses online and some courses in person?

No, you cannot take some courses online or in person due to how the program is administered. 

Who will advise students throughout the program?

 We have very supportive faculty members who also serve as advisors and are available to answer your questions and help you with any questions related to the program. 

How much does the program cost?

 The tuition rate is $480 per credit plus any applicable fees. Out-of-state students pay the same tuition as Hawaiʻi residents.

Is financial aid available for this program?

 Yes, financial aid is available.

 What technology is required to participate in the program?

 You must have a laptop or desktop computer with high-speed internet access, a video camera, and Microsoft Office applications installed.
