About the Instructor
Dr. Nelson-Hurwitz is a community-sourced faculty member; having been born and raised in Hawai‘i. She is also a first-generation college graduate, and cites commitment to student support and initiatives to increase student diversity as motivations to work in academia. As a researcher, her interests focus on undergraduate educational pedagogy and improving student support services, especially among undergraduate populations under-represented in higher education.

Learn about keeping our whole community healthy — stopping diseases before they start, making it easy and convenient to make healthy choices, and ensuring everyone can live their best lives. In this course, students explore the basics of public health, including health promotion and disease prevention from a community health perspective, through interactive discussions and student-centered activities in a supportive learning environment.
