Need-based scholarships are available via the Summer Financial Aid Services online application. The 2026 Priority Summer Application is available from April 6 – April 17, 2026. The 2026 Late Summer Application will be available from April 18 – May 15, 2026.

UH Mānoa Summer Freshman and Sophomore Merit Scholarship

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Outreach College is pleased to offer a $1,200 merit scholarship to 150 UH Mānoa students for Summer Sessions 2026. This award recognizes academically exceptional students who have demonstrated a commitment to completing their UH Mānoa degree in four years.

The $1,200 award is to be applied towards the tuition for a UH Mānoa Summer Sessions 2026 course. Award recipients will be responsible for any remaining course tuition and costs.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this Summer Sessions 2026 merit scholarship, you must first meet criteria 1 or 2.

Admitted to UH Mānoa as a freshman in the Fall 2025 semester AND have 27-45 credits earned at UH Mānoa. (Credits from classes completed by the end of Fall 2025 as well as classes registered for in Spring 2026 as of March 31 will be counted towards these 27-45 credits.)

Sophomore standing (30-59 credits) at the end of the Fall 2025 semester (including UH Mānoa and transfer credits).

In addition, you must:

have UH Mānoa as your home campus in the Fall 2025 through Summer 2026.
have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as of the end of the Fall 2025 semester. (A student’s cumulative GPA is based on credit courses completed at UH Mānoa.)
be registered for at least 3 credits in the Summer 2026 term by April 22, 2026.

If you have any questions about your eligibility, we recommend that you submit an online application. Each applicant’s eligibility will be confirmed by staff and students who are ineligible will be notified.

How to Apply
To apply, complete and submit the Summer Merit Scholarship 2026 Application, which will be available here (on this webpage) on March 27. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. On the application, complete the items to the best of your ability. Make sure your UH ID number is accurate so staff can confirm your eligibility.

Tax Credits

The U.S. Congress established federal tax credits for qualified college tuition and related expenses under the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. Information about the tax credits as well as other education related tax credits can be found here or by contacting your tax advisor.

All students, except nonresident aliens, who were charged qualified tuition and related expenses from January 1-December 31 will receive a 1098-T tax form. This form will reflect amounts billed (not paid) for qualified tuition and related expenses and amounts paid for scholarship and grants during the calendar year. The form will be mailed to your Permanent Address. To ensure receipt of this important document, update your Permanent Address on file at the UH-Mānoa Admissions and Records Office, Queen Lili‘uokalani Center for Student Services, Room 001.

Note: The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 requires the University to collect and use students’ Social Security Numbers or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) to report qualified tuition and related expenses billed to students and scholarship and grant payments made to students to the IRS each year.

These tuition waivers can be applied to Outreach College courses under certain conditions. A non-refundable, non-transferable administrative fee is charged for each summer session that the waiver is applied to.

Graduate Assistant Tuition Exemption

Individuals seeking VA educational benefits (including certification) consult the VA Regional Office or the Campus VA representative, uhmva@hawaii.edu, before registering for courses. The VA does not offer educational benefits for all courses.
