Freshman Merit Scholarships

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Outreach College is pleased to offer a $1,200 merit scholarship to up to 200 first-year UH Mānoa students for Summer Sessions 2021. This award recognizes academically exceptional students who have demonstrated a commitment to completing their UH Mānoa degree in four years.
The $1,200 award is to be applied towards the tuition for a single UH Mānoa Summer Sessions 2021 course. Award recipients will be responsible for any remaining course tuition and costs. Scholarship applications are due on March 27, 2020 (Friday).
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this Summer Sessions 2021 merit scholarship, you must:
- have been admitted to UH Mānoa as a freshman in the Fall 2020 semester.
- have UH Mānoa as your home campus in the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters.
- have 27 or more credits. (Credits from classes completed by the end of Fall 2020 as well as classes registered for in Spring 2021 as of March 27 will be counted towards these 27+ credits.)
- have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as of the end of the Fall 2020 semester. (A student’s cumulative GPA is based on credit courses completed at UH Mānoa.)
- be registered for at least 3 credits in the Summer 2021 term by March 27, 2020.
Sophomore Merit Scholarships
Sophomore Merit Scholarship Application Online
University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Outreach College is pleased to offer a $1,200 merit scholarship to up to 150 sophomore UH Mānoa students in recognition of their academic excellence.
The $1,200 award is to be applied towards the tuition for a single UH Mānoa Summer Sessions 2021 course. Award recipients will be responsible for any remaining course tuition and costs. Scholarship applications are due on March 27, 2020 (Friday).
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this Summer Sessions 2021 merit scholarship, you must:
- have UH Mānoa as your home campus in the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters
- have sophomore standing (30-59 credits) at the end of the Fall 2020 semester (UH Mānoa and Transfer Credits)
- have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as of the end of the Fall 2020 semester (a student’s cumulative GPA is based on credit courses completed at UH Mānoa)
- be registered for at least 3 credits in the Summer 2021 term by March 27, 2020
Students receiving financial aid should contact the UH-Mānoa Financial Aid Office before registering for Outreach College campus classes, as your award may be based on enrollment on Mānoa campus only or your scholarship may not be applicable to Outreach College campus courses.
All students requesting Financial Aid for the Summer will have to submit a Summer Financial Aid application form to the Financial Aid Office. Form will be available on the Financial Aid Website at www.hawaii.edu/fas/mymanagement/summer.php
Financial aid applications for extension terms are processed manually, and delays should be anticipated. If your UHM financial aid is applicable to Outreach College courses and you will not be receiving your financial aid before your payment deadline for Outreach College courses, contact Outreach College Business Office, ocfiscal@hawaii.edu, (808) 956-5899.
Financial Aid for Summer Sessions Visiting Students
Contact the Financial Aid Office at your university or college for information about summer financial aid availability and procedures BEFORE registering for classes.
Some colleges and universities have financial aid Consortium Agreements with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. If you need the UHM Financial Aid Services to complete a Consortium Agreement form, fax the form to (808) 956-3985.

Tax Credits
The U.S. Congress established federal tax credits for qualified college tuition and related expenses under the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. Information about the tax credits as well as other education related tax credits can be found here or by contacting your tax advisor.
All students, except nonresident aliens, who were charged qualified tuition and related expenses from January 1-December 31 will receive a 1098-T tax form. This form will reflect amounts billed (not paid) for qualified tuition and related expenses and amounts paid for scholarship and grants during the calendar year. The form will be mailed to your Permanent Address. To ensure receipt of this important document, update your Permanent Address on file at the UH-Mānoa Admissions and Records Office, Queen Lili‘uokalani Center for Student Services, Room 001.
Note: The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 requires the University to collect and use students’ Social Security Numbers or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) to report qualified tuition and related expenses billed to students and scholarship and grant payments made to students to the IRS each year.

Employee or Spouse/Domestic Partner Tuition Waivers
These tuition waivers can be applied to Outreach College courses under certain conditions. A non-refundable, non-transferable administrative fee is charged for each summer session that the waiver is applied to.

Graduate Assistant Tuition Exemption

Veterans Administration (VA) Benefits
Individuals seeking VA educational benefits (including certification) consult the VA Regional Office or the Campus VA representative, (808) 956-8010, before registering for courses. The VA does not offer educational benefits for all courses.
